Mercury Hare was born in 1948 and spent much of his early life at the end of Wades Lane on the Shotley Peninsula. His fascination with using his hands started here, with many a dismantled clock and toy.

In 2001 he started potting with Alan Baxter at the White House pottery in Somersham near Ipswich. His interest was aroused by the wheel and to this day all his work is thrown.

In 2002 Alan Baxter moved to France and Mercury set up his own pottery in Little Blakenham in Suffolk.

He first exhibited privately in 2004 with his sister, the potter and painter, Marcia Blakenham and with his painter and illustrator niece Emily Faccini.

Since then he has sold in aid of the Maggies Centres charity and also the Moonbeam Trust.

In 2008 he first started exhibiting at the Alde Valley Spring Festival and will do so again 2017
